I bought this for the Floyd covers, not knowing much about the Mule. Was I surprised. The musicianship on display is simply stunning: the first disc just moves me like the best music does. Then on to the Floyd covers - the best I've heard, and the sound of a band making the songs their own shows how it should be done.
The downside is the overbearing crowd noise, especially when Boston is mentioned. Don't know if it's supposed to make it sound like an audience bootleg, but it does annoy at times. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. How unexpected! Those who criricised this for crowd enthusiasm just amaze me.
What do you expect from a live performance? This is Govt Mule, not the Royal Concertgebouw. People WILL show appreciation. I despair of some of the "critics" on Amazon. Nothing worse than crowed noise on live albums. But apart from that a cracking alarm. One reviewer said it didn't sound like David Gilmour. Ha Ha that's because it's not Pink Floyd. The first disc of original numbers is great and the following 2 discs keep up that high standard. Its interesting when you're grounded in Gilmour's original majestic use of the pentatonic scale to hear Warren Haynes' American flavour.
Great album, great value and there's a DVD of the whole show to go with it. Utterly superb. Worth it for the DVD alone. Don't - as I did - discount the Floyd bit. I'm not a fan of tribute stuff at all but this is brilliant. Floyd songs, but nothing like Floyd in the best possible way. Dark Side of the Mule.
