My Own Mind (Uniform Choice) - Forward Defence - Rest In Violence 1995 - 98 (CD)

D: I needed to let her know who is the boss here. This is when I hit her—my ex-partner. The men gave the concepts their own labels, terms that were meaningful to them. For example, in a meeting, a former inmate, now a group facilitator, revealed:. I even the score. And these days, I stay there most of the time. Identifying the specific thought processes that regulate aggressive behavioral responses is crucial to an accurate assessment of the violence potential in high-risk individuals. Items on the FAVT were derived from actual hostile, antagonistic, paranoid statements revealed by inmates who were incarcerated for violent crimes.

Empirical studies show that the FAVT distinguishes violent individuals from non-violent individuals at a high level of significance. Reliability and validity studies conducted on the FAVT revealed five levels of destructive thinking that were significantly correlated with violent behavior:.

Or You can never trust a woman man. Or Nobody sees how much you contribute. No one appreciates you. Or He She is just taking advantage of you. Nobody believes you. While this scenario occurs repeatedly in everyday life, it is certainly the more difficult one to justify: How do you know, after all, that an offense would follow?

What we have just discussed at the level of individuals can be held also for the relationships between States. A State may be justified to respond violently to a violent attack — be it physical, psychological, or verbal violence to be at stake. Equally, according to some, it may be justifiable to respond with physical violence to some legal or institutional violence. Suppose, for instance, that State S1 imposes an embargo over another State S2 so that inhabitants of the latter will experience tremendous inflation, scarcity of primary goods, and consequent civil depression.

An interview with DR. A national authority on youth aggression and violence, he has served as an expert witness in a number of youth homicide trials throughout the country. Andrew and Soren: How did you get interested in offering contemplative practices to very violent youth? James Garbarino: One influence has been my partner, Claire Bedard. She has a very strong interest in spiritual development. A second influence is my own interest, going back to my college days and being interested in contemplative practices.

Some of it also has been my own scrambling around working with these violent boys and wondering what might help transform them. For anyone who loves life and is spiritually fulfilled, such acts are incomprehensible to them. AS: Taking that question a step further, based on the causes and conditions that you see bringing about violent behavior, how do you think meditation or yoga can help violent kids?

JG: I think there are several grounds for thinking that. One, the commonalties of untreated and unresolved traumatic experiences in their background argues for this.

Anything that can help them deal with problems of arousal and focus and a way to manage emotions other than dissociation is a useful tool. I use the term as a generic descriptor for the acts taken in defense of yourself — can be avoidance, de-escalation, actually going hands on with someone, etc.

A great introduction to the mindset required for effective self defense. Varg runs the gamut on this topic in its simple form. Mindset being the central theme and lead character.

Well written. Great book. Sep 12, donaldwhipple rated it it was amazing. Textbook This book is a textbook, and with this textbook, Varg Freeborn has delivered a manual for self defense that I will revisit again and again. It should be mandatory for anyone even thinking about defending themselves.

Apr 29, Brandon rated it really liked it. Jul 02, neil West rated it it was ok. Strong Start First 20 pages and last 20 pages are best.

The rest is filler. It's boring and repetitive. And repetitive. Oct 27, Gregg C rated it it was amazing. A Must Read For The Defensive Community A very different perspective on criminal violence and our response to, preparation for and engagement with it to defend ourselves. Read It! Jun 10, Tara Carter rated it really liked it. Good book for anyone who carries a weapon or is thinking about doing so. He says it like it is when it comes to criminal violence, and the best ways a normal law abiding citizen can prepare for the worst.

Aug 01, Linden A. Mar 21, Aslan Umarov rated it liked it. What I noticed is that author says he doesn't like talking about himself and his personal experiences and immediately starts talking about himself and his personal experiences. Mar 21, Kyle Sowards rated it it was amazing. If you want a cerebral look in to extreme violence, this book is a must read. Feb 04, Lucas Campoverde rated it it was amazing.

Nelson rated it it was amazing. Reality, in direct-to-the-point , brutal unvarnished truth There are predators who will brutalize your family, and then kill all of you, simply to take your property. Laws, morals, and caring are not part of the world of these predators. This book is for those who wish to be prepared to effectively deal with such predators, by avoidance, escape, or as a last desperate resort, the concealed weapon on your hip. VOM is a look into their sadistic, twisted world so that YOU can understand how to deal Reality, in direct-to-the-point , brutal unvarnished truth There are predators who will brutalize your family, and then kill all of you, simply to take your property.

VOM is a look into their sadistic, twisted world so that YOU can understand how to deal with them when and if you are confronted. I would think that VOM would be required reading for Law Enforcement; VOM is definitely essential reading for the concealed weapons permit holder, because understanding these predators will put you into the proper mindset if that weapon becomes the only tool that will allow you to survive.

To those who prefer to live in a fantasy world where "everyone is good at heart", understand that your house of cards will collapse upon contact with a predator, and that you, and those who trust you, will not survive that contact unscathed. The choice is yours. Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you. Mar 02, SilverReader rated it really liked it.

The biggest take away: you must try to avoid a fight in a every possible way, before engaging in one. Read your environment well and always try to be vigilant. Little bit repetitive at times, but overall decent read. No techniques in here, its all about the mental training of the fighting. Props for stating it in the epilogue. Gabriel rated it it was amazing Oct 18, Zac Bentley rated it it was amazing Jan 03, There are no discussion topics on this book yet.
