The great " Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay" honestly pales in comparison to at least two or three dozen other masterpieces he recorded. The label also had, hands down, the greatest Blues guitarist to ever live in the still criminally unheralded not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame!
Albert King. And with Johnnie Taylor, they created some of the best Blues and Soul records ever made, and they are all but forgotten about today. And I say to you, after all that, Ruby Johnson was their best kept secret. An enigma, a mystery. What happened! In Thankfully six years before her passing , this consistently superb set was issued among other CDs with lost and never released treasures by Stax artists including Rufus Thomas, William Bell, and Booker T.
All stack up with anything the label released during this time That is no small feat because this company literally did not put out a bad record in this prime period.
Also featured here is an inspired cover of Ben E. No guitar player in the history of popular music has been better playing behind vocalists than Cropper. This ranks with his best work supporting the likes of Otis Redding and Johnnie Taylor. It wasn't just that Ruby Johnson could've been a contender, she should've been a superstar! A hand full of songs recorded for STAX between and then she retired. Material written by the Dave Porter and Isaac Hayes team was not enough to give her the hit required.

Richly illustrated with the work of the artists who have inspired him as well as samples of his own drawings and paintings, this memoir offers both a compelling read and a visual story of David's courageous battle with depression.

Review With his book I'll Run Till the Sun Goes Down , David Sandum contributes toward tearing down the boundaries and walls around 'nerve problems,' which used to be called 'melancholy'. It is insightful and useful, not only for those who struggle with mental health, but also for their families, friends, and colleagues.
As much as the author presents beautiful and telling artwork both his and the work of other artists , as well as the relief that the creative process brings to his life, he learns unequivocally that he has an illness that cannot be eschewed away by just 'thinking differently'. It's a stellar journey into the harsh reality of mental illness, the resilience of the human spirit, and the healing power of art. While there are many books about depression, few address the transformative power of art, not only on the viewer, but on the maker.
Sandum's awakening to art and its practice, while he is still in the grips of the disease, is a testament to the infinite wisdom of creativity. Start reading on your Kindle in under a minute. We are friends of David's from the time period he speaks of in Utah attending college. We were his neighbors and I can honestly say I had no idea what turmoil was brewing in him. We were all stressed students living close together, and some of us were also parents we were not parents; David and his wife were so it was pretty "normal" to often appear sleep deprived or worn out.
It's shows how one can try with all their might to "put on the mask" and keep going, until "going" isn't possible anymore. Having been someone who's struggled with a much lesser form of depression, I can only begin to imagine what's he's felt.
This is a very thought provoking book with much feeling. Very raw and real emotions. I like that it appears David held nothing back in writing this- true to character as David always was a very "real" person in stating his knowledge and feelings about things. The feuds raging in Texas in the nineteenth century bound in acrimony not only families but special-interest groups that, feeling intolerably wronged, sought "extralegal justice" when they believed the law would give them no satisfaction.
Sonnichsen leaves no doubt that bad blood so often turned into bloody feuds in Texas because there the folk law of the frontier was reinforced by the unwritten code of honor of the South, and because everybody in Texas went armed.
Although the Regulators and Moderators warred in eastern Texas in the s, the really big feuds were ignited by the Civil War and flamed until late in the century, when the Texas Rangers began to put them out. In rich circumstantial detail Sonnichsen describes the most famous of the conflagrations stretching from the "sorrowful sixties" to the "nervous nineties. Read more Read less. Where have you been? Where did you go? But if you send for me you know I'll come, And if you call for me you know I'll run. This book is so sweet. I love that these two hunter and evie have been in love with each other since they were kids but it just never worked out for them. At least until hunter comes back from the military and is supposed to stay with Evie.
This was my first time reading from this author, I believe. I was fascinated by the plot. There were just about the perfect amount of twists and unexpected turns, to keep the story interesting! You felt like you could relate to the characters.
From beginning to end, I enjoyed this book!! I can see this book spinning off at at least two, maybe these additional stories. I can't wait to read them!! There are some grammatical issues and the dual POV feels a little redundant. I'm also left with some questions that I hope will be answered later in the series. That aside, the characters were well crafted and easy to fall for.
It was a quick read and I do look forward to continuing the series. I'm excited to get to know Gina and Meghan better. Now this is a romantic love story. Evie and Hunter's story is beautifully written and well told. It's a real love that started in youth, with a betrayal of epic proportions but fraught with lack of communication. It needed that in order for Evelynn and Hunter to become who they needed to be for this love to be an everlasting kind of love.
The key to making this so full was the friendships and family that so completely wanted their happiness. Granny Mabel I love her. No nonsense and tells it like it is. She had me rolling. This another author that goes on my must read least. See all reviews from the United States.
Top international reviews. Ok if you like that sort of read. I felt it was the sort of book written in the style of late teens. In a nutshell, we have 24 yr old gorgeous 'good girl' virgin pining for her childhood love to come sweep her off her feet. He declares these weren't 'real' women like the heroine I hope this is not the standard of all Amazon free books.

This book is a light hearted easy read about these two people who have loved each other all their lives Not to mention the interesting description of the characters POV and what they thought about each other And yeah..
And hunter is sometimes depicted as a sex crazed, obsessed stalker lol! What makes it OK is character and the humor in the story! Which didn't make me get bored what so ever. A really good read I think this the author's first book as I couldn't find any other titles under her name when you read this you can actually imagine the characters a classic love story with some steamy scenes mixed in I really hope this won't be the last book from nikki vale I downloaded it from kindle and it was free I urge all fans of romance novels to download this book who will be hooked all the way through.
