This album is a good example of what Melodic Metal sounds like. I also love the energy and passion behind most of the songs on here. Even the ones I'm not too fond of don't fail to please! And Joey's voice is golden here!

The rest of the band is also in their prime and if they have more albums that sound like this, then I want to know which ones to look for. The Music: 1. I can feel the passion in just the guitar playing at the beginning! And Joey's voice sounds very open and great. Not like some of the more nasal vocals he does later. I do find this one to be one of their very best songs on here. The music just plain rocks, the vocals couldn't have been done any better, and they aren't doing this for MTV or anyone; they are just making music that sounds good and that's what makes this better than their other works.

Great song! A little bit like Judas Priest or another metal band. I like this one though. As a huge power metal fan, I love that this might have influenced power metal with the double bass drumming and the melodies here. Children of This Time 7. Words of Wisdom 8. Paradize Bay 9. Memories Europe are one of those bands that just never struck an immediate chord with me. My introduction to them was, of course, "The Final Countdown".

Being a dedicated heavy metal fan in the 80's, "The Final Countdown" always struck me as "chick rock". It just wasn't something a guy into Maiden and Celtic Frost would be interested in. Over the years since building this site, Europe is one of the bands many people have questioned me about, asking why they weren't part of my collection. Many of them explained to me that the self titled album and "Wings of Tomorrow" are much less poppy and would probably appeal to me.

My answer would usually be, "so many CDs, so little money" , which in the case of Europe meant, I'm just not interested enough in this band to spend money on their CDs. The thing about it is, I have invested in CDs by guitarist John Norum , as I've found much to like about his solo material.

Well, one Europe fan took it upon himself to purchase a copy of Europe's debut for me. This self-titled debut album from Europe, originally released in , has eight songs and one instrumental titled "Boyazont.

Unlike more popular albums such as "The Final Countdown" and "Out of the World", the debut is less glossy and over produced. While keyboards are part of the mix here, they are not the main ingredient, leaving Norum's guitar work some breathing room.

While those influences are nearly lost on later albums, on this early work some of that grandiose classic rock style is present. As well, the band adds elements of progressive rock.

Europe's debut may not be their biggest seller or their most popular album, but album sales do not automatically equal good music. Frankly, I far prefer this straight forward hard rock and heavy metal to the glossy pop of their hit records. It sounds good, but it's not my style of music. It flows nicely on the album and the guitar work isn't fancy but impressive and it'll sound good to others but my opinion is it's not the best here.

I mean the only thing in this song that shows technical chops is the guitar part. The drums are harder than a pop song, but they aren't anything too fancy like Neil Peart or Mike Portnoy. Great Instrumental though, I love it!

While there's no double bass, this one rings power metal as well. This one has all the elements that make a good power metal song minus double bass and it sounds great. It has that 80's passion and flavor that gives it something unique.

Great, highly recommended song! It is a good song and I like the galloping guitar part during the chorus. This song is high in energy and Joey sounds very inspired here. He even uses a little bit of edge in his voice at points.

This one's a good song. It isn't a favorite of mine, but it does rock and have a driving guitar part. Others may like it more, but to me, it's not that bad, but I'm not thrilled by it either. I just think it has that 70's Steve Perry Journey ring to it.

I like "Open Your Heart" more in terms of vocal work, but I like the musical work on this song better. This one is mellower and has less power, but it's more of a relaxing song. Great song none the less! I'm not too big of a fan of it, but like I keep saying, it's not outta place, it's just a difference in opinion from person to person. It does have some rather cool guitar stuff going on, but I just don't care for it.

Verdict: This album is great for fans of: Judas Priest I'm not a fan, but a lot of this sounds similar to 80's Priest , Iron Maiden Not really cause it sounds like it, but because it has a metal influence in it , Journey, and other 80's bands of this sort. I haven't heard all of TFC album, but I've listened to some of it, then found other things to listen to while this one kept my attention.

Anyhow, we learnt it and recorded it in an afternoon. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. For the song by Stratovarius, see Dreamspace album. The vocals are again top notch and the drumming hauls here. That one is all drowned in keyboards and drained of the passion and emotion that this version stands for. This one is clearly the better version of the song because his voice sounds better, but on top of that, more passionate. The music is also just very easy, and passionate, nothing that sounds forced or out of place.

  6. I agree with Vinylfly, this has long been my favorite Europe album. People who only know this band from "The Final Countdown" may be really surprised at how technically proficient they are. This is almost more of a prog rock album than an "arena rock" album, although there's enough of the latter to justify the label.
  7. Feb 24,  · This is the second album by Europe, on a remastered CD. Europe would of course achieve their big breakthrough in with their AOR-oriented third album, The Final Countdown. By comparison, Wings of Tomorrow () is much more of a hard rock effort. Still, it contains some fine songs, which hold up very well almost three decades later/5(56).
